Gill Edwards - painter & print maker

A few months ago, I had an instagram follow from Gill. I popped onto her feed and immediately fell in love with her work: Joyful, bold, and completely unmistakable.

I clicked on to message her directly just to say how much I loved her work... but as I was typing, ping! A message from Gill popped up asking about booking a shoot. Right person, right time. I love it when that happens.

Gill is a painter & print maker creating work that’s full of feeling. Her mini studio is an Aladdin’s cave of colour—brushes, swatches, paper scraps and sketchbooks stacked with ideas. Honestly, I could’ve moved in.

As with many of my branding clients, Gill isn’t someone who particularly loves being in front of the camera, but you'd never know it from the final images. Because once we started chatting and giggling (with the occasional art-based ramble), the nerves melted away, and she totally relaxed into it.

This shoot is a great example of the kind of work I love, getting to know makers and artists in their spaces, celebrating the mess, the colour, the realness. The fact that Gill trusted me with that is something I don’t take lightly.

If you’re a maker or creative looking for natural, relaxed photos that feel like you (and maybe even include a bit of beautiful chaos), then hey - this might be your sign.
